The BORG as a TRAINING TOOL:
Imagine that you have an entirely inexperienced consultant join your agency. You can spend 10 minutes introducing them to The BORG and then say, for example: “I want you to read through the policy statement for Standard 01, which is all about vetting. When you have read through that, I’d like you to spend the quiet part of the day flicking through all of the documents in Standard 01, in the teacher, agency and school folders. You are not expected to learn the contents. But I want you to have an idea of what’s available to you to use. Then, for the next couple of days, other consultants will be asking you to carry out administrative tasks using Standard 01 documents. You won’t be doing anything else, and you won’t need anything else. OK? Then, next week, we’ll put you on tasks associated with Standard 02.” In this way owners of The BORG can gradually allow consultants to access parts of the whole system and use them, in this manner, to methodically get to grips with the demands of the entire operation. Moreover, a consultant can be trained to operate to standards which should be observed in every agency. In this manner the agency can be fairly said to be enlightened people managers who are inducing portable skills which should reflect well on their employers.
